The first step to a successful surgical outcome is a comprehensive consultation. During your scheduled consultation Dr. Sullivan will listen to your specific concerns and recommend the treatment options which will best address your individual needs. Our Patient Coordinator will provide you with a detailed financial cost analysis and scheduling information based on Dr. Sullivan's recommendations. For your convenience we accept Visa, Master Card, Discover Card, personal checks, and cash. For patients who are interested in secured or unsecured loans we would suggest contacting your personal bank representative.  National City bank offers various options that can be researched by contacting Cynthia Remoudis at 614-203-3932 or by emailing

Before Your Surgery:
Please follow all the directions you have received to prepare you for your operation. If you develop any abnormal symptoms (e.g. cold, sore throat, fever, etc.) or you think you are pregnant, please notify your physician since it might be necessary to postpone your surgery.

Testing:
Your pre-operative history and physical can be performed at The Sullivan Centre. Pre-operative testing such as EKG and routine blood work may be required within 30 days of your surgery. These studies can not be done at the Centre but we will either recommend a physician or you may have your own physician perform these tests. Please have the results of these test sent to The Sullivan Centre two weeks prior to your surgery. They may be faxed to us at (614) 436-8847.

Pre-Surgery Instructions
It is important to follow these instructions closely:

Please Note: If you are having your procedure under local anesthesia only, you may eat and drink as you normally would.

  • Eat only a light meal at dinner the night before surgery.

  • Do not drink any alcoholic beverages during the day or night before surgery.

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight before surgery.

  • You may brush your teeth the day of your surgery but avoid swallowing.

  • Bathe on the morning of your surgery as you normally do.

  • Please do not wear any jewelry, except wedding rings. Leave purses, money, credit cards and other valuables at home.

  • Do not wear any make-up.

  • Bring cases to store glasses or contact lenses during surgery.

  • Wear loose-fitting, easily laundered clothing that will not irritate your incision.

  • Bring your insurance card.

  • Smokers are advised that smoking the day of surgery can interfere with the effectiveness of anesthesia and cause nausea after surgery.

Pre-Operative Medications:
If you take morning doses of heart or high blood pressure medication, take your normal dose the morning of surgery with only a sip of water. Our anesthesiologist will contact you before your surgery date to review your history and discuss your medications.

Day Of Your Surgery, Arriving at the Centre:

  • Plan to arrive at the Centre approximately one hour before your scheduled surgery time. Note: it is advisable for you to call before hand to recheck your surgery time.

  • You may feel dizzy or drowsy after surgery and you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home following your procedure. You will not be discharged alone or to a taxi.

What To Expect:

  • When you arrive, the receptionist will greet you. You will be escorted to a changing room where you will change into a surgical gown. Your clothing will be placed in a secure locker where it will be retrieved after surgery.

  • You will then walk to the pre-operative area where your surgeon will visit with you and answer any last-minute questions. You will also meet your anesthesiologist who will perform an assessment and discuss the method of anesthesia to be used for your
    surgery.

  • Depending on the type of surgery you are going to have, you may be given a mild relaxant while you are in the pre-operative area. You will then be escorted to the operating room.

  • Following surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room where you will be closely observed. When you are awake, alert and your vital signs are stable, you will be able to dress and be released to the care of an adult family member or friend.

After Surgery/Anesthesia, Planning Care at Home:

  • Your surgeon will describe the amount of discomfort you can expect and prescribe the appropriate medication.

  • Follow the instructions you were given for care of the incision. If you develop any unusual symptoms, contact your physician immediately.

  • Your surgeon will inform you of specific eating instructions, if they are necessary.

  • You may need to rest so it's a good idea not to plan strenuous activities for the days following surgery.

  • Make sure you follow your medication instructions carefully and avoid use of alcoholic beverages.

  • We will schedule a follow-up visit for you as well as advise you when you may return to work and/or resume other activities.

  • The Sullivan Centre nursing staff will call to check on your progress the first few days following your surgery.
