Columbus Upper Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
When our friends and family members say we look tired, in most cases, they are referring to the aging changes they see around our eyes. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to refresh the appearance around the eyes and create a more youthful look. A an upper blepharoplasty or eyelid lift removes excess skin from the upper eyelids.
Why have an upper eyelid blepharoplasty?
We all have pockets of protective fat around the eyes. Normally, a barrier holds back this fat. As we age (or in some individuals who inherit the trait), the barrier weakens, allowing the fat to push forward to create a puffy appearance. This can occur in both the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. As the fat pushes forward, it also contributes to the eyelid skin stretching.
After you and Dr. Sullivan make a mutual decision to move forward with the surgery, you both will discuss the technique indicated for your individual surgery. The type of anesthesia, the surgical facility, any supportive surgery, and the risks and costs inherent in the procedure are outlined at this time. You must also make the commitment to follow the pre-surgical and post-operative instructions.
In Columbus upper eyelid lift surgery, Dr. Sullivan first marks the individual lines and creases of your lids to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. He then makes the incision and removes the excess fat, muscle, and loose skin. He uses fine sutures to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar.
In most cases, You are able to return to work and resume normal activities after one week. Dr. Sullivan will advise you to wear sunglasses in the summer months following surgery in order to protect your eyelids from the sun and to help minimize scarring. Sutures are typically removed after 5 to 7 days.
