For the longest time I have been critical of the “non surgical facelift”. It’s been my belief that the phrase “non surgical facelift” is used too loosely and as a marketing gimmick by practitioners who do not know how to do facelift surgery. However recent product development and medical device advancements have caused me to rethink what is possible non-surgically. Today, maintaining a youthful appearance doesn’t always require an invasive procedure with dramatic results and a long recovery time.
As we age, the face loses fat and the facial bones subtly recede. The combined effect is volume depletion evidenced by flat cheeks, hollow eyes and furrows around the mouth. New and improved soft tissue fillers now allow for selective targeting of specific areas and optional volume restoration. The “liquid facelift” is ideal for women and men who are on the go and looking for a youthful lift without the knife.
Liquid facelift refers to the injection of a synthetic substance. This substance has some density to it and like caulking material, it lists the skin up. Hyaluronic acid is the chemical in the most commonly used fillers. We already have Hyaluronic acid in our skin and join spaces. Numerous fillers are now available in the US Market. Each filler has special qualities which make it useful to target areas of concern, For example, Voluma and Restylane Lyft add lift and volume to the cheeks and midface while Juvéderm, Vollure, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne help smooth away wrinkles and folds. The beauty of injections is immediate improvement with minimal risk and downtime. Recent product advancements have also increased the longevity of the results.
In addition to volume loss our skin looses collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic acid with age. Advancements in device technology allow for precision targeting of the skin’s dermal layer for new collagen formation and tissue tightening. Think of collagen like horizontal stands of spaghetti. These strands stretch, pull apart and tangle over time. By selectively heating the collagen layer with Ultherapy (Ultrasound energy) or Infiniti (Radio Frequency) the collagen contracts, rearranges and tightens again.
Volume restoration and skin tightening each individually provide improvements but the key to achieving something approaching a surgical result without surgery comes with combining the two or what is commonly referred to as stacking treatments.
We offer two non- surgical facelift options at The Sullivan Centre:
The No Downtime Non-Surgical Facelift (NDNF) includes:
- Voluma for midfacial volume
- Juvederm for the nasolabial folds
- Ultherapy for skin tightening
- CoolSCulpting for the chin to address fatty fullness
These treatments can be combined at one appointment which takes 1-2 hours. The filler results are immediate but it takes approximately 3 months to see the entire package results. Typically results will last 1 ½ years.
The Minimal Downtime Non-Surgical facelift (MDNF) includes:
- Voluma for misface volume
- Juvéderm for nasolabial folds
- Infini for skin tightening and texture improvement
- CoolSculpting for the chin to address fatty fullness
Infiniti is most effective when delivered in three separate treatment sessions spaced four weeks apart. Therefore this package takes 3 months to complete. With each Infiniti treatment there is 2-3 days of pinkness of the skin. Of course filler results are immediate but the final results from CoolSculpting and Infiniti take approximately 3 months. The MDNF will last approximately 2 ½- three years.
