Male Breast Reduction Procedure
In some cases, especially in puberty-aged boys, male breasts can resolve spontaneously. More often, though, surgery is required for cosmetic or psychological reasons. Treatment for breast reduction depends on several factors. For example some medication and illegal drugs may cause breast tissue to develop in males. The procedure requires a strategically placed incision which allows Dr. Sullivan to surgically remove excess breast tissue.
At The Sullivan Centre, we always put safety first. Our ambulatory surgical center has been licensed by the State of Ohio and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). We have achieved a near zero percent infection rate. Furthermore, we only use board certified anesthesiologists for all of our operations.
The male breast reduction or gynecomastia procedure is performed at The Sullivan Centre and will take approximately one and a half hours under anesthesia. It may be possible to have this treatment with a local anesthetic. Gynecomastia is performed on an outpatient basis; therefore you can recover in the comfort of your own home. Most men can return to work in seven days and can resume normal exercise in a few weeks.
Patients are required to wear a compression garment for a few weeks following surgery, which helps control the bruising, swelling, and mild tenderness.
All individual pre and post-operative needs will be discussed with our nursing team during your comprehensive pre-operative appointment.
