Tip Rhinoplasty
Nasal tip rhinoplasty surgery often involves reshaping and repositioning of the lower lateral cartilages. These are the cartilages which make up the tip of the nose. There is a right and left lower lateral cartilage. They have a “C” shape turned upside down and curve over the nostrils. Many maneuvers have been described to deal with the lower lateral cartilages.

Recovery Process
While the nose may appear swollen, patients typically can return to work, school or routine activities one week following surgery and can resume light exercise in eight to 10 days. Bruising can occur but usually is resolved by one week.

Each tip rhinoplasty case is different and presents its own set of unique challenges to the Rhinoplasty surgeon. This is precisely why experience matters when it comes to rhinoplasty surgery. Select a rhinoplasty surgeon who has appropriate training in rhinoplasty surgery and has demonstrated experience with happy patients.

More

The bottom third of the nose is the most complex portion of the nose structurally and usually poses the greatest challenge to the Rhinoplasty surgeon. This is illustrated by the fact that assessment and management of the nasal tip is often the marquee topic of discussion at Rhinoplasty meetings and articles in Plastic Surgery publication. One of the leading causes of patient dissatisfaction after primary rhinoplasty surgery is unsatisfactory correction of the nasal tip.

The nasal tip is bounded by the lower edge of the upper lateral cartilages superiorly and the columella inferiorly. Its lateral border is the attachment of the nasal rim or alar base to the lip-cheek crease. The nasal tip anatomy is represented by a complex relationship between the lower lateral cartilages which occupy most of the tip, the lower edge of the upper lateral cartilages and the front part of the vertical nasal septal cartilage. Small attachments or ligaments exist between these three structures for nasal tip support.

Nasal tip rhinoplasty work is the most challenging and many times the most critical aspect of any Rhinoplasty surgery. It requires the most focus and attention. The final results of rhinoplasty surgery aren’t evident until 6-12 months following nose surgery and the nasal tip is usually the last area to settle. As the nasal appearance evolves over time undesirable changes may develop years later. The most common motivation for secondary rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty is the development of a new deformity after primary rhinoplasty.
